She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Illinois in 2010 and a master’s degree in information science from the University of Illinois in 2018. She competed in basketball and track and field as an undergraduate.

During the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China, McGrory won four medals: gold in the 5000 meters, silver in the marathon, bronze in the 800 meters, and 4* 100-meter relay.
She won the wheelchair races at the London Marathon in 2009 and the New York Marathon in 2006.

She has also competed in the World Championships for Track and Field (2006, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) and Marathon (2015, 2016, 2017), winning ten medals (3 gold, three silver, four bronze).
