Donning a grey tracksuit and face mask, Mr Iyayi spoke only to confirm his name and address before the case was adjourned until tomorrow at 10 am when heard at Derby Crown Court.

Upon arriving at the couple’s home on Sunday, paramedics did all they could to save Ms Harris, but she died at the scene.

The nature of her wounds has not been made public by investigators.

Parents of children taught by Ms Harris, affectionately known as Katy, described her as a ‘wonderful teacher’ and a ‘fantastic mother’ in tributes shared online.

They revealed how she taught children art at a special needs school and ‘changed many lives’ by ‘putting her soul into teaching’.

One person wrote: ‘So sad, my deepest condolences to the family. Such terrible terrible news! Met Katy a few times and she was a very lovely lady and a fantastic mother.’
