Dj Black N Mild also known as Oliver Stokes Jr, was a famous bounce artist from New Orleans. He died Thursday after testing positive for the novel coronavirus COVID-19. His birth name is Go DJ Black N Mild. He was a major New Orleans radio personality and was the first deejay in the area to create a radio show dedicated to New Orleans Bounce, Billboard reported according to Stokes’ social media.


Go DJ Black N Mild has died at the age of 44.


In 2008, Stokes founded the Louisiana chapter of Go DJ Global, an international federation of deejays, and took the stage name Go DJ Black N Mild. In addition to his music career, Stokes had also worked as the In-School Suspension Coordinator at Arthur Ashe Charter School in Gentilly since July 2019.

Following Hurricane Katrina, Stokes worked in Houston where he hosted a mix show, Rhythm and Bounce, which was played on a New Orleans AM station on Saturday nights.

Stokes was one of two figures in the New Orleans bounce community with a stage named pronounced black and mild. The other is Adam BlaqNmilD Pigott, a producer who has worked with Big Freedia and Drake.

Death Cause (COVID-19)

Black N Mild was one of two coronavirus related deaths in Louisiana on Thursday according to the Orleans Parish Coroner. He was at the age of 44. He chronicled the first parts of his fight against Coronavirus on Facebook. According to his Facebook page, he went to the Ochsner Urgent Care-Lakeview facility on March 9. He also shared that afternoon that his temperature was 102.4 degrees. By March 11, he’d been admitted to University Medical Center. His final Facebook post said: pneumonia not the flu. On March 10, he shared that he hadn’t “had the flu in years,” adding an emoji wearing a surgical mask. The following day, he shared on Facebook that he had moved to the University Medical Center in New Orleans, where he was tested to have “pneumonia not the flu.”
