Grace Thorpe Marske is a little girl from New Marske who found injured at home on Dale Street in New Marske on Tuesday morning. She was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment, where she died today.

Grace Thorpe Suspect

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody. He was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Cleveland Police said Grace’s death as “devastating,” and her family is “understandably distraught.” Specially trained officers are supporting her family.

Det Ch Insp Peter Carr said: “Whilst the loss of any life is tragic, the loss of a child is particularly devastating. “Our thoughts remain with Grace’s family, and everyone affected by her loss.”

He also urged people to “be mindful” of posting on social media about the case. “Please bear in mind the impact any comments could have on the case and Grace’s family during this challenging time,” he said.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out later.


Tributes have flooded in for the youngster from heartbroken friends and family.
One relative shared a picture of the adorable youngster with the caption: “My princess.”

Another shared a photo, saying: “No family should have to endure this.

Tearful neighbors today told how locals were preparing for a candlelight vigil for the little girl. One mum said: “It’s absolutely heartbreaking to hear the news she has died; she was such a beautiful little girl.

“During clap for carers, she would come to the door with her mum and wave across the street at my little girl who is about the same age.

“She would also get excited and wave whenever she saw me out with my dog. “It’s completely devastating that she’s died and that it’s being treated as a murder.”

Another neighbor said: “Everyone on the street has been affected by this and the village as a whole. “It’s a small village where everyone knows each other, and there have been a lot of tears for that little girl.
