Karl Shiels Biography
He was born in 1972 in Dublin and died on 14 July 2019. He has died at the age of 47.
Karl was married to Dearbhla Shields. couple a daughter and son together although no details about the children are known.
Karl began his career as an electrician but in the early nineties, he changed his career and joined the Gaiety School of Acting.
He appeared in the 2005 film Batman Begins, as well as TV shows Foyles War, Doctors, Into the Badlands and The Tudors. In 2014 Karl became a regular on Fair City becoming one of the most prominent characters. He last appeared on television on Sunday night in the popular show.
Karl also was a theatre actor having appeared in several productions in Dublin’s Abbey Theatre including Beauty in a Broken Place, At Swim-Two-Birds and The Barbaric Comedies.
Karl was a uniquely talented individual, simultaneously intense, light-hearted, funny, sharp-witted, outspoken and intensely powerful as an actor, director and artistic director of the Theatre Upstairs – where he was such a support and mentor for young writers, actors and directors – and of his own company Semper Fi before that.

Death and Cause
Karl Shiels died on 14 July 2019 when he was falling asleep on the set of Fair City.
The Peaky Blinders and Batman Begins star were said to have been struggling to stay awake while filming scenes for Irish soap opera Fair City.
However, sources close to Karl have told Mirror Online that simply isn’t true.
They say there is no truth in the reports that Karl was falling asleep on the set and that he had worked up until Friday, just two days before he sadly died.
