Michael Harpon Bio

Michael Harpon was a 45 years old civilian police officer, who murdered four police officer colleagues with Knife in Paris. He recently converted to Islam. Harpon was born on 1974 Caribbean island. He was deaf since childhood.

Attack

At about 13:00, Michael has gone into the building and straight to his office, where he began attacking colleagues with a knife.

He stabbed three people inside two offices and two women on a stairway before he was shot dead by an officer inside the building’s courtyard, according to French media.

An investigation has launched into a grudge the assailant may have held against his colleagues, but terrorism cannot be ruled out, said the source.

Many of those involved in similar attacks on the police have been Muslim converts influenced by radical terrorist groups.

An investigating source said the attacker was involved in an argument with someone and then erupted in anger, targeting other police colleagues before being neutralized.

Loic Travers, another union official, said the suspected attacker was an administrative worker in the police intelligence unit.

“I do not think this is a terrorist act,” Mr. Crepin, who knew the attacker, told Franceinfo radio.

Police union leader Jean-Marc Bailleul described it as a criminal act, telling BFMTV: “It was a moment of madness.”

The attack follows a rare nationwide police strike on Wednesday, which saw thousands of officers demonstrating in Paris over working hours, shortages in resources, and controversial pension reforms.

Victims

All Victims were repeatedly stabbed by Michael, who had worked in the IT department of police headquarter of Paris since 2003, in the worst loss of French police lives in a single day since World War II.

Michael married his wife, Iham, in 2014. After married converted to his wife’s religion (Islam).

His wife, Iham, was arrested, as an investigating source said that the nature of Harpon’s attack corresponded with similar ones carried out by terrorists affiliated to Islamic State and Al-Qaeda.
