Nick Matthews Bio
Nick Matthews was the man who died in the BRI over the weekend, following a positive test for coronavirus. He had underlying health issues, passed away in the hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning shortly after returning from a holiday in the Canary Islands.
He was 59 years old.
Wife and Children
Nick’s wife’s name is Mary Matthews. They have two children.
Father-of-two Nick Matthews is believed to be the youngest coronavirus victim in Britain.
Mr. Matthews – who had underlying health conditions – died in Bristol Royal Infirmary in the early hours of yesterday morning.
It was today revealed that coronavirus fatalities in the UK have increased by 14 overnight bringing the total death toll to 35.
The Nailsea father-of-two had tested positive for COVID-19 and his wife has shared his picture with a local Facebook page in the hope people may recognize him, know if they have been in recent contact with him, and choose to self-isolate.
Mary and Nick had recently returned from a holiday in Fuerteventura, reports Nailsea People.
The Canary Islands on Friday, March 13, had recorded 63 active cases of coronavirus.
Nick went into the hospital by ambulance on Thursday night suffering from breathing difficulties and was diagnosed with pneumonia. According to his wife, the couple had no known contact with anyone with coronavirus.
Former police officer Nick had been part of Clevedon CIFD before taking early retirement for health reasons 10 years ago.
Mr. Matthew’s death is the first in the Bristol area. The latest figures from Public Health England show Bristol has four cases and South Gloucestershire has two also this number will likely change in the next 24 hours.
Mary Matthews Pay Tribute To Her Husband
Mr. Matthews’ wife Mary wrote in a tribute on Facebook yesterday: ‘Today at 3 am I lost my life partner and a soul mate but most of all my best friend.
“Together with our children Charlotte and Ben we are beyond proud to have had such a big character in our lives.
“As a family, we are currently in isolation…I know some of you would like to visit, but please for you and your family’s safety, stay away until we get the all-clear.”
In a statement, University Hospitals Bristol Foundation Trust said: ‘Sadly, we can confirm that a man who was being cared for at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and had tested positive for Covid-19, has died.
‘The patient who died was in his late fifties and had underlying health conditions.
‘The family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. We will not be commenting further and ask that everybody respects the family’s privacy.’
