Accused of kidnapping and Murdering A man while on Duty

Ferguson allegedly shot and killed 30-year-old Robert Howard after forcing him into the back of a squad car and taking him to Frayser Boulevard and Denver Street, Memphis Police (MPD) affidavit. He was arrested Sunday and charged with kidnapping and killing a man while on Duty, police said.

Ferguson was utilized by the MPD as of October 2018, according to authorities. Ferguson was detained and instantly fired Sunday, following the law enforcement department.

The former officer has been charged using premature murder, first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated kidnapping, especially aggravated kidnapping, abuse of a corpse and fabricating and tampering with evidence,” authorities said.

Another individual, Joshua Rogers, 28, has been detained to assist Ferguson in relocating the casualty’s own body, authorities said. Rogers was charged with accessory after the fact, misuse of a corpse, and fabricating and tampering with Proof.

It wasn’t immediately clear Monday whether Ferguson and Rogers have lawyers. Ferguson was being held on no bond while Rogers was released on a $25,000 bond, according to the Shelby County Jail.

Robert Howard was last seen at his home on Tuesday around 5 p.m., according to police. The next day, he was reported missing after his girlfriend tracked his phone but could not locate him, police said.


Investigators found internet searches for cleaning up crime scenes and destroying DNA evidence on Ferguson’s phone as well as evidence that he purchased cinder blocks, chains, and other items that were later found to “hide evidence,” the affidavit said.

Surveillance video obtained by police also showed “the shooting of the victim while Ferguson was on duty,” according to the affidavit.

Ferguson was arrested and immediately relieved of Duty, the police statement said. According to the MPD, Ferguson was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated kidnapping, significantly aggravated kidnapping, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with or fabricating evidence.

“No one is above the law,” MPD Director Michael Rallings said in a statement. “Knowing that a Memphis Police Officer, someone who took an oath to protect and serve, decided to commit this horrific crime is devastating.”
